Fans of the DS Automobiles brand have been waiting for this model the most. The DS 7 Crossback E-Tense with plug-in hybrid drive is the most powerful version of the French SUV, promising great performance and reduced fuel consumption in one. Was it worth the wait? We checked it out during the first trip. We tested a model courtesy of the showroom DS store in Krakow.

If we put the combustion and hybrid versions aside and propose a game: to find 5 details that differ between these two cars, the participants will have a real problem. Visually, the DS 7 Crossback E-Tense is practically no different from the version with a petrol or diesel engine. A keen eye will notice the “E” badge on the hood, E-Tense lettering on the tailgate and an extra corner on the left side of the car that hides the battery charging port. Different or not, the model still looks clean and original compared to many competitors.

DS 7 Crossback E-Tense will not disappoint us with its internal equipment. The Rivoli-inspired test car finished in black and white quilted leather is a true luxury SUV. The materials are soft, pleasant to the touch and beautifully designed, and the list of accessories should not miss anything. There are many additional options here. Electrification led to the addition of blue and green lights that inform about the range, the use of electricity and its recovery, as well as additional functions on the clock.

Comfort, silence and acceleration worthy of a hot hatch

The hybrid drive of the DS 7 Crossback convinces from the first moments spent behind the wheel, especially in the big city. The car accelerates pleasantly and there is complete silence in the cabin. There is no engine noise and no vibrations that would disturb the driving comfort of the French SUV. A gentle movement of the right foot will make the car move smoothly, without any jerks. Strong pressure will release all the energy from the car. DS 7 Crossback E-Tense is very fast. According to standard specifications, it will accelerate to the first hundred in 5.9 seconds, which is only 0.1 seconds slower than Renault Megane RS The maximum speed is up to 235 km / h. We still have to stop the fast SUV. After pressing the brakes for the first time, we can feel a little surprise. The pedal feels heavy and operates in a specific, sluggish manner that requires attention from the driver.

According to WLTP data, the DS 7 Crossback will travel 58 kilometers on a single charge, but after sitting behind the wheel, the display of the 13.2 kWh battery informed about a range of 29 kilometers, with the battery almost full. We traveled 110 km in the car in very different conditions. There was city, highway and highway, we used all five modes alternately (Electric, Comfort, Hybrid, Sport and 4WD), more electric and, in my opinion, the best – hybrid. We were even able to leave the tarmac for a while and go on a dirt road.

What judgment? The DS brand focuses on comfort and you can feel it in the seat of the hybrid SUV. The DS 7 Crossback E-Tense suspension perfectly absorbs rocks and unevenness under the wheels, and when we hit the pavement, the acceleration will put a smile on our face. The corner of our lips will drop a few mm when we look at the rapidly disappearing kilometers of the electric variety, but if we want to drive a car with power, we have to take this into account. The battery regenerates a little when breaking. Interestingly, even if the display shows a range of 0 km, we will be able to provide some power to the rear wheels in 4×4 mode, although it will be temporary. To fill the battery up to 100%, we need to spend 2 hours in the socket if we use a 7.4 kWh charger.DS 7 Crossback E-Tense

The manufacturer advertises fuel consumption at the rate of 1.3 – 1.6 l/100 km, which can be achieved when the battery is full. After the battery is dead, don’t expect to get close to this level. Our test ended after 110 km with a result of 5.9 l/100 km. When the model comes to us for a long test, we will definitely travel more, which will be more reliable.

The DS 7 Crossback E-Tense is powered by three units. The first is a 1.6 PureTech petrol engine with a power of 200 HP, supported by two electric motors. Total power is 300 HP. The DS Motor Hybrid has a maximum torque of 520 Nm.

Should you choose DS 7 Crossback? If we choose the hybrid only to save fuel, it is not a bad choice, but it is not the best choice. However, if we care about performance, smooth driving and quiet operation of the electric motor in the city, the French SUV should meet our expectations. DS 7 Crossback is pleasing to the eye, offers a lot of comfort and space inside, including in the trunk.

How much does the DS 7 Crossback E-Tense 4×4 cost?

The starting price is PLN 227,000 for the So Chic version, but we received the second level of equipment Grand Chic for testing, which costs PLN 248,000 in Polish showrooms. zlotys.
