Lexus is becoming a hybrid, or rather a plug-in. Here are the new strategies for the luxury brand Toyota

ROME – With the goal of achieving a range of 100% electric vehicles worldwide by 2035, and even earlier in Europe, Lexus has decided to accelerate this transition by making plug-in hybrid technology more accessible.

The first step of the first brand of the Toyota group is to reduce the cost gap between hybrid models and corresponding plug-in hybrids, up to 3,000 euros for the NX range. Furthermore, using Kinto One’s long-term leasing formula, it will be possible to benefit from all the benefits of the Plug-in Hybrid technology of the RX and NX at the same cost as the Full Hybrid versions.

With this initiative, the Japanese company wants to make a variety of electrification options available to consumers to make sustainable mobility more accessible, satisfying the doubts of all those who still do not feel ready to transition to fully electric models. The Lexus Plug-in Hybrid system offers freedom in electric mode capable of satisfying a large number of daily mobility needs (up to 98 km in the urban cycle). When the battery charge is exhausted, the car continues to use, without interruption, the characteristics of its Full-Hybrid system, which guarantees complete freedom of movement without relying on the charging infrastructure.

“Avant-garde and innovation have been part of the DNA of Lexus since its inception. This is why I am proud to be able to say that Lexus has the courage to challenge again the conventions of the high-end car market and always offer new value to customers – emphasized Paolo Moroni, director of Lexus Italia – We will push ourselves more and more on the electrification of mobility, continuing to apply our vision to the challenges of the economic, social and political context, with the aim of reducing the impact on the environment”.

Since the RX 400h, the first Full-Hybrid model with an electric hybrid powertrain in 2004, the development of the Lexus hybrid system has progressed rapidly. Hybrid technology has accompanied various generations of the RX, and has also equipped the new NX compact SUV since 2014, until the introduction of the fifth-generation full hybrid platform, found in the latest vehicles introduced this year.
