What do we already know about the Fisker Pear?

Henrik Fisker likes to create things. As a talented designer, Dane recently started his own brand. But the Fisker Karma, an electric car with a range extender, probably came too early. Meanwhile, however, Fisker has made a comeback, this time focusing on electric vehicles. The first example is the Fisker Ocean, a powerful family SUV.

The Fisker lineup will eventually include four models, including the Ocean, the Alaskan pick-up, the Ronin four-door GT convertible and a compact crossover: Fisker PEAR – for the ‘Personal Electric Automotive Revolution’. What do we already know about this Fisker PEAR, which has a completely different design from some previous solutions?

Fisker PEAR, more important information:

  • Crossover Compact, 5 doors, length 4.55 meters
  • Interior configuration with 2 rows of seats for 5 or (in some markets) 6 passengers, in the second case with 3 front seats, like the late Fiat Multipla.
  • A reclining option, where the front seats slide forward so that the rear seats can be converted into reclining seats.
  • A special tailgate that does not open, but slides down: the ‘Houdini Trunk’ rear window slides to the bottom of the tailgate, and then disappears completely into the rear bumper. This way you can also reach your luggage in tight spaces.
  • The position of the stem in the nose resembles a drawer. Fisker doesn’t say ‘frunk’ (front trunk), but ‘froot’ (front boot).
  • A simplified SLV-1 (Simple Light Volume) platform, with up to 35% fewer parts for lower production costs and increased power.
  • Based on the Fisker Blade multimedia architecture, in-house software developed a powerful user interface processor and 5G connectivity.
  • Driving distances between 180 to 320 miles, or 288 to 512 kilometers.
  • Different versions are available with different power, but always four-wheel drive. The Extreme version, with better performance, will compete with the MG4 XPower.
  • The starting price in the US is $29,900, or about 27,000 euros.
  • Planned market introduction: mid-2025, pre-sales begin in 2024.

Family characteristics

In style, the Fisker PEAR is similar to the Fisker Ocean, with very short overhangs, large wheels and smooth and simple body panels. From the side view, the clear separation between the passenger area and the cargo compartment is surprising, due to the vertical body edge after the rear doors. There are photovoltaic cells on the roof, while the rear is characterized by its special rear lights, which frame the entire rear window in the form of a thin red LED strip.

Simplicity is the key in the interior, with moderate lines without frivolities. The front bench is divided into two parts: the driver’s seat and a wide section for two passengers next to it (for those markets where the middle seat in front is legal). The tops of the rear seats have been cut back to improve forward visibility for rear passengers.

Apart from the wide flat under the steering wheel, what is most impressive is how open the dashboard looks. Although it has many storage options, there is only a central screen and the instrument panel in front of the driver’s nose is missing. There also appears to be no header display, if the images are anything to go by.

More information on the technical details of the Fisker PEAR will probably follow at the IAA in Munich, which will take place from September 5 to 9, 2023.
