Repsol and Honda are like a good old marriage that stays together no matter what life is like. The companies announced the extension of the sponsorship contract for the coming seasons. It will also help the Spanish in their ecological energy work.
In July of this year, rumors appeared about the possible end of the marriage of Honda and Repsol, and Petronas would be a place of concern for Spain. The rumors were mainly due to the fact that no additional sponsorship was announced at the Marc Marquez MotoGP tenth anniversary event. Corse di Moto journalists also claimed that another sign of the possible termination of the partnership was the open criticism of Dorna by Repsola representatives.
In the end, the divorce did not take place, and Repsol finally extended its contract with Honda and the new contract is expected to last until the end of the 2024 season. It will be a beneficial partnership for both parties, as MotoGP prepares fuel-revolution for a greener change. By 2024, it is already 40 percent. It is from non-oil sources, and from 2027 it will be 100 percent. The 2023 season will be interesting for one more reason – this is the last year of Marc Marquez’s contract.
