New Genesis G90 (2023): First test drive

The luxury part is the shark tank. However, the Korean luxury brand ventures into the biotope dominated by the S-Class & Co. using the Genesis G90 (2023). The first test!

The attempt to conquer the luxury class and dislodge the traditional top dogs from Audi, BMW and Mercedes has already failed several times in the past, sometimes badly. Now the Hyundai subsidiary is moving forward with the new Genesis G90 (2023) and is entering a very difficult area with a luxury sedan. The attractive four-door model follows a clear concept: high comfort especially for the rear occupants. Following this principle, the interior is regularly designed for four seats and – whether in the short version with a length of 5.28 m or the XXL version with a length of 19 cm – it not only offers a royal space in the back and an information system for the rear seats. The kit itself also left a little to be desired on the first test drive. You can move it electrically to almost any imaginable position, including the lying position, and enjoy various massage programs. There is even a footwell on the right side of the back, which also has massage, heating and ventilation equipment.

But people in front of the new Genesis G90 (2023) have no reason to complain either, as they also sleep in AGR-approved seats, heated and cooled with massage programs. The choice of materials is also impressive, including high-quality leather and a variety of luxurious decorative materials, as well as a wood-like surface made from recycled paper. Standard equipment includes multi-assistance systems, navigation and automatic locking doors. During the first test drive, the G90 shines with its excellent noise comfort. The interior has an active noise canceling system – similar to high-end headphones. This means that Bang & Olufsen’s standard system speakers send out targeted impulses that are inaudible to the human ear to eliminate unwanted noise. The downside of the coin: Warning beeps that occur more frequently, for example when the speed limit is slightly exceeded, seem more difficult. Also interesting: Tips for our products on Amazon

First test with the new Genesis G90 (2023)

At the same time, the predictive electronic chassis control ensures high suspension comfort. The camera captures the road surface and automatically adjusts the multi-chamber air suspension and dampers to avoid body movements caused by bumps that could disturb passengers in need. However, the person behind the wheel will not miss either, as the new Genesis G90 (2023) puts sensitive and direct driving in their hands. This means that the large luxury liner can be carefully guided around sharper corners. Overall, the Genesis, which weighs at least 2230kg, seems more manageable on the first test drive than its impressive specs might suggest.

Competitors:

Maximum power development from the 3.5-liter V6

The only power source available is a 3.5-liter biturbo V6, which is also assisted by an electric compressor. It combines the short time that the chargers need to build pressure during acceleration. During the first test drive, the reserved, quiet engine impressed us with its maximum torque of 549 Nm and bold power development, reasonable smoothness and spontaneous throttle response. The performance provided by the 415 hp (305 kW) engine is also impressive. From a standing start, the “short” G90 should run up to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds. The long version, which weighs 165 kg, takes the blink of an eye, or 0.2 seconds, longer. The maximum speed is 250 km / h. By the way, Genesis G90 always comes fully equipped. The customer only specifies the color scheme of the body and the interior. The short version costs 116,180 euros, the long version costs 126,180 euros (until December 2023).

Our conclusion

The new Genesis G90 perfectly reflects the ambitions of the Korean luxury brand. The luxury liner is fully equipped and impresses with many well-thought-out comfort features that make traveling stress-free. But customers will first have to show if the attractive, well-designed Asian will succeed.
