Honda is reorganizing to accelerate electrification

Honda Motor Co., Ltd. announced yesterday in Japan that starting April 1, 2023, the company will implement organizational and operational changes to strengthen electric vehicle development. This only concerns internal changes, which should speed up the electrification of cars as well as motorcycles and power products (generators, etc.). Honda still aims to be CO2 neutral by 2050.

Electricity Business Development Activities

The reorganization means that the Business Development Operations unit will now change to Electric Business Development Operations. This department is to “integrate the corporate strategy and development activities of BEV products of the automotive industry with the electrification strategy and development activities of motorcycle and electric products companies to further strengthen and accelerate Honda’s electric business.”

New regions

This also means that the six geographic regional units (Japan, North America, South America, Europe/Africa, Asia/Oceania and China) will be turned into three regions, with North America and China remaining separate from the rest of the world, which at that time it creates a third region under the name “Associated Regions”.

In Japan, Honda recently showcased several electric versions of popular light motorcycles such as the Cub, Dax and Zoomer, but in Europe the world’s largest motorcycle brand has yet to launch a commercially available electric motorcycle.
