Huawei announces Chery’s Luxeed S7 electric sedan begins mass deliveries – 03/30/2024

The Luxeed S7 electric sedan, made by Chinese tech giant Huawei and Chery Auto, began mass production after semiconductor shortages and manufacturing problems delayed production and delivery, a Huawei executive said Saturday.

“A large number of Luxeed S7 vehicles have already rolled off the production line and are now being shipped for delivery to customers,” said Richard Yu, general manager and chairman of Huawei’s automotive solutions, on Weibo.

Huawei had said that the issue of the delivery of the first product electric cars should be resolved from April, as the local media reported this month – this.

Chery had filed a complaint against Huawei over production problems with a computer unit made by the tech company, which caused delays in vehicle deliveries, Reuters reported in January.

The S7 sedan – the first model from Chery’s Luxeed EV brand – had received about 20,000 orders as of November 28. It is priced at 249,800 yuan ($34,600).

In 2023, Huawei’s revenue saw its biggest growth in four years, thanks to an increase in consumer share and revenue from new businesses such as smart car components, which could benefit its recovery after US sanctions.

Last year, Huawei announced that it would spin off its smartphone division into a new company. Mr. Yu said this month that the unit could be profitable from April, after losing billions of yuan last year, media reported.
