The Lexus UX enters the new model year with a stronger hybrid drivetrain: With improved coordination, the compact crossover SUV now offers more driving dynamics. Meanwhile, Toyota’s smart subsidiary has improved the comfort, connectivity and safety of its best seller.

The heart of the system is the fifth-generation hybrid: the new Lexus UX 300h develops a system output of 146 kW/199 hp, which is an increase of eight percent compared to the 135 kW/184 hp of the current Lexus UX 250h.

In the “F Sport” and “Luxury Line” equipment variants, the two-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine works on two electric motors in addition to the enhanced e-Four all-wheel drive system. Instead of the 5.3 kW/7 HP induction motor, a 30 kW/41 HP permanent magnet motor is now used on the rear axle.

The result is a more direct response and acceleration. The front-wheel drive Lexus UX now sprints from zero to 100 km/h in 8.1 seconds in all-wheel drive mode, a run time reduced by 0.8 seconds to 7.9 seconds compared to the previous model. The more variable torque distribution between the front and rear axles increases driving pleasure and safety.
