Mercedes-Benz G 580 EQ: G-Class on the plug

Mercedes-Benz G 580 EQ: G-Class on the plug

What is his nature as a soldier country of the crossa car commissioned by the Shah of Iran, has become a symbol of luxury on wheels: the Mercedes-Benz G-Class.

It’s often packed with a new V8, but now it’s time to plug it. Mercedes-Benz has electrified Geländewagen. And how.

Mercedes-Benz G 580 EQ: electric G class

The Germans know better than anyone that the angular silhouette had to remain intact. Anything under the hood of the off-road icon. The G 580 has not lost its design character and a number of iconic features. Although sharp knives in the drawer will still notice the difference. Consider the raised bonnet, the so-called ‘air curtains’ on the rear wheel arches and the design box at the rear.

A strong horse

In horse power there is no shortage of this a strong horse. Or it should not be said anymore… Four individually controlled electric motors, placed near the wheels, produce a total of 432 kW, equivalent to 588 hp. Thanks to the capacity of 116 kWh, Mercedes-Benz promises you a range of 473 kilometers according to WLTP. This is partly because the body is built on a ladder chassis, which other models are also built on, and which is reinforced to connect the electric motor. A high-voltage lithium-ion battery is integrated into the chassis of the ladder, which therefore ensures a low center of gravity.

Different methods

Nice and all, but as an off-road king you’re not allowed to make any concessions when you switch power lines. The electric G 580 doesn’t work either. Like its (obsolete) siblings, the G-class is capable of climbing up to 100% on suitable surfaces, and remains stable up to a slope angle of 35 degrees. But when we talk about the depth of illusion, that’s where we start talking. With a maximum wave depth of 850 mm, the electric G-Class exceeds conventional steamers by 150 mm.

Because of its various functions, no land is impassable. For example, the G-TURN function can perform a G 580 (approximate) turn in place on a loose or unpaved surface. And with G-STEERING you can ensure that there is a small turning circle off the road. Plus; RANGE LOW ground reduction increases vehicle torque and special transmission ratio. If that’s not enough for you, you have the new OFFROAD COCKPIT option. This allows you to take your off-road experience to the next level with additional digital performance.

Here in the Netherlands, the new Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ technology will soon be available as a FIRST EDITION, at a starting price €200.303.
