Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, at the top of Pikes Peak | FP – Hello

Hyundai will also participate in the 102nd edition of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. And it will do so with the first and latest addition to its high-performance electric range: obviously we’re talking about Ioniq 5N, now in two models at the starting line of the race scheduled for June 23. The 650 HP electric SUV made by the Korean brand will be there with a specific goal: to set a record as “Electric Production SUV/Crossover“.

Lightning back to Pikes Peak

“Let’s go back to the mountain stronger than everand a unique electric crossover in its category – commented Till Wartenberg, Head of N Brand and Motorsport – Hyundai has historically always brought new technology and new products to Pikes Peak and Ioniq 5 N is faithful to this tradition, because it represents a new concept of high performance EV. The Ioniq 5 N will showcase what customers can expect from their cars.

Two Ioniq 5 N on the starting line

They will be behind the wheel of the two Ioniq 5 N models available at the start of the race Paul Dallenbach and Ron Zaras: the former has won the PPIHC eleven times and set the all-time record in 1993, while the latter is a rookie in the competition and is the newest member of the team. “For a climber, the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is a bucket list event, for me it has been since the first time I saw the movie ‘Climb Dance’ with a 56k internet connection. – the latter himself was known – So It is an incredible honor racing here for the first time ever, with the Ioniq 5 N and the support of the amazing team at Hyundai. I am happy to share my journey from a young spectator making my debut as a competitor, as challenging as that journey can be.”

Hyundai Modification

The two models of the Ioniq 5 N that will participate in the race are actually in the standard version that we also find on the road but with some small caveats, it is important to observe the competition rules from a safety point of view: the driver’s seat, for example, has been replaced by a Recaro Pro Racer SPA Hans seat, the seat belts are HANS compatible with six Sabelts, the rear seats have been removed. , and the roll cage and fire suppression system are finally installed. The performance metrics, as mentioned, they do not change: peak power of 650 HP, battery of 84 kWh, sprint from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 260 km / h.
