There is no future for the Hyundai i20 N and i30 N

Hyundai’s N sport models can still be configured on the home page. But production of the Hyundai i20 N and i30 N with their supercharged petrol engines will be discontinued in the first half of 2024. The brand is pursuing its mission to offer a range of zero-emission products by 2035.

However, this only applies to the European market. The last available vehicles are scheduled to be delivered at the end of the year. So if you’ve been thinking about ordering one of the two athletes for a while, you should hurry. The rival Polo GTI of 204 hp i20 N and its older brother – up to 280 hp i30 N – are still available.

i20 N: Pure driving pleasure from 25,660 euros

Hyundai takes its environmental commitment to Europe one step further. By 2045, all phases of the car’s production and operation should be 100 percent carbon-free. Despite this schedule, Hyundai didn’t launch the i20 N as the world’s sports leader of its small car until 2021. There was a facelift last year.

With 204 hp, 1.6 liter turbo four cylinder, Hyundai i20 N offers a lot of driving pleasure from the very first meter. Power, which weighs only 1.2 tons, is not only fast (6.2 seconds to 100, 230 km / h top speed), but also quite economical. The i20 manual variant alone consumes an average of seven liters of petrol. Prices start at 25,660 euros. The well-equipped sports variant i20 N Performance (with differential lock) is available from 29,140 euros.

i30 N: Ambitious and loud gangster

Rival Golf GTI i30 N is bigger, more expensive and wild. In standard trim, its two-liter turbo engine produces 250 hp – in the performance model it even has 280 hp. The latter is optionally available with an eight-speed two-speed transmission. All other variants are manual only. Hyundai still offers the i30 N as a five-door hatchback or as a hatchback. The fast-recovery version with 280 hp provides even better performance. It can run from standstill to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds. All i30 N models are limited to a top speed of 250 km/h.

Albert Biermann played a key role in the development of the N version in the third generation of the i30. The former BMW M boss presented the first i30 N in 2017. And even then, the Korean Golf competitor did not have to hide behind Wolfsburg’s GTI. So far, no other rival has come close to the GTI concept like the i30 N. In a recent comparison test with motor car and sports The Korean is driving a GTI Clubsport 45 of 300 hp.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 N takes the place

But Hyundai will not have to do without the game completely in the future. After all, the Koreans have a hot electric iron in the fire with the Ioniq 5 N. It was not only in the main test that it was better than its two brothers of the combustion engine in almost all aspects. car games confirmed. Here he licked the Nordschleife at the Nürburgring at an incredible speed of 7.45 minutes. For comparison: Hyundai i30 N performance is required around 8.05 minutes.

To be fair, it should be mentioned that the relatively large Ioniq 5 N is powered by 650 hp electric machines (performance with N Grin Boost) and costs at least 74,900 euros. There hasn’t been any other electric car in this price range that has been designed consistently for racing. Even if N fans will miss the models of combustion engines, Hyundai has given them a lot of comfort with this car.

Great, I would buy it!It doesn’t work at all!

Hyundai is ending production of N sport models with combustion engines for Europe. The final models of the i20 N and i30 N will go on sale by the end of 2024. From now on, the electric models should hold the sports flag high. Sales of the 650 hp Hyundai Ioniq 5 N have already begun.
