Hyundai Ioniq 5 facelift (2024) gets rear wiper

“Do you taste something strange?” you hear when you try to keep a straight face. That disgusting cake your colleague gave you has no sugar at all, but beetroot. The reason for the dismissal, as far as we are concerned. Some things are just necessary. Take the windshield wiper on the hatchback. Hyundai left the rear wiper on the Ioniq 5, but now they have changed that. In addition, the EV will have a bigger battery, an extra button and a sportier version.

It often happens that car manufacturers throw a test balloon, but quickly find out that it was already good. For example, Golf 5 previously did not have an antenna on the roof, but after three years suddenly there was a blade on the back. It seems the reception was not entirely happy. Hyundai told it MotorTrend that they left the windshield wiper because it looked better and for aerodynamics, but this has more than a disadvantage.

It seems the brand received complaints about the lack of windshield wipers. Wiper has already appeared on the rear window on the fast Hyundai Ioniq 5 N and for the face the handle is also on all standard versions. To improve aerodynamics (or to compensate for the wiper?) the rear spoiler has now been extended by 50 mm. More aerodynamic wheels have also been added.

Bigger battery on Hyundai Ioniq 5 facelift

To improve the range, the battery grows by 6.6 kWh to 86 kWh. The brand has not yet revealed what the new range will be. The front and rear bumpers are slightly angled to give the car an SUV look. Inside, a ‘favorites’ button has been added so you can organize yourself and the wireless phone charger is now higher up.

Additionally, some minor details have been added. For example, the center window pillar has been strengthened, the shock absorbers have been adjusted and the infotainment system software has been updated. In addition, the climate control is arranged a little differently and a zipper has been added to the safety systems and driving assistants.

You can order the Hyundai Ioniq 5 facelift as ‘N Line’. This is a version that looks sportier, but not faster. The N Line wears sportier bumpers and 20-inch wheels. Inside you get a sport steering wheel, sport seats, a dark headliner and red stitching. It is not yet known when the new version of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and its windshield wiper will come to the Netherlands. Delivery is already starting in Korea.
