Hyundai Motor Company has announced a recall of 26,000 Velosters due to a potential fire hazard stemming from a parking sensor malfunction.
The South Korean automaker said the recall affects certain 2019 and 2020 Veloster models built between June 28, 2018, and June 26, 2019.
According to the company, a defect in the sensor may cause the parking brake cable to rub against the fuel delivery line, which could result in a fuel leak. This, in turn, could create a fire hazard.
In a statement, Hyundai said it is not aware of any fires or injuries related to the defect. However, the company is urging affected owners to bring the vehicles to a Hyundai dealership, where technicians will inspect and replace the part if necessary.
The recall is expected to begin on October 18. Hyundai said it will contact owners directly to inform them of the problem and arrange for the repair.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said it is aware of the recall and is monitoring the situation.
