MILAN – Italian orders for the fifth generation Hyundai Santa Fe will open in May, the month in which the official price list of the D-segment SUV will be released, completely redesigned, among other things with the contribution of “pencil” from Belpaese, Nicola Danza, external design manager at the Korean company’s European headquarters. The launch price of the model is more than attractive, because it starts from 49,600 euros for the 5-seater Business version, two-wheel drive.

Only engine available it is a Full Hybrid based on the millesei turbo petrol, whose power has been reduced to 215 HP to comply with the community criteria regarding Co2 emissions. Torque is 370 Nm Hyundai has not released more data because homologation is still in progress. Abandoning diesel is a strategic choice: “We cannot look back, but we must look forward”, summed up the number one in Italy, Andrea Crespi. The new Santa Fe it will be in national stores in July, while the commercial launch is planned for September. The offer will be practically “all unified” and the panoramic roof should be one of the very few accessories on request: Crespi and his managers have decided to simplify the price list as much as possible. The SUV, which has grown by 5 centimeters in length (4.83) and wheelbase (2.81), will also be available as a plug-in in the future, but Italy remains cautious about this power supply.

Apart from rejection with two-wheel drive, the model can also be equipped with all-wheel drive (2,000 euros more) to emphasize its uniqueness and the “fantastic” spirit with which it was created: the first drawings are from the period of the epidemic, when every day. Life in the open air has become almost a mirage. When the seats are folded, the back almost becomes a living room: the backs can be “beds” and the passenger room is easy to access thanks to the tail gate of 1,275 mm and a length of 812 mm. The top of the range variant, the Calligraphy, already has a retractable handle for riding on the roof. What is still missing is a range of equipment to convert it into a “camper”: the trunk has a capacity of between 711 liters and more than 2,000. For two additional seats you need 1,200 euros.

Luxurious interior it has a gear knob behind the steering wheel, but on the lower right side of the driver: work space. A double screen of 12.3” appears, which is added to the central one placed under the dashboard where other touch and physical controls are concentrated. Again due to the epidemic, there is also a birth tray.
