Hyundai Santa Fe: space, practicality and daring design

Hyundai explains that it is an experience car in all its aspects, almost going as far as to consider this real statement by sleeping in it due to the growing situation in South Korea that sees many cars converted into small camps for those who glampingand this is why the new Hyundai Santa Fe was designed with special attention to interior spaces

The beginning of the design

Presented to us by Nicola Danza, Italian and responsible for the design of this new generation, the fifth, who explains how the style we see had its origins during the pandemic, inevitably influenced by the whole range of social movements found in the times. in which there was a high attention to cleanliness and a desire to escape into the open air reinforced, by contrast, by the lock.

Precisely for this reason, for example, inside we find a special drawer with UV-C light provided for the cleanliness of small items of daily use, a drawer that is therefore also recommended in the production version.

The desire to live in the open air, and the explosion of glamping in Korea, led to the first impression boards, those drawings that define the car before continuing the study of its effects. sleeping in as the lowest flat part can be created by folding all the seats.

The very choice of horizontal rear lights works for the optimization of the space: in this way the rear door can increase the size of its opening mouth to increase the usable width (81 cm, that of several doors in the house so to speak) and its height , 1.25 meters.

As soon as the first phase was completed, the Hyundai team continued with the final design, and outwardly they very much dared to follow the philosophy of “no fear” (it is also an example of other models in the series). Square lines, the study of lights that can make the car easily distinguishable on the road, the study of numbers and the continuity and history of the brand. Dance defines chessboard strategy, and in this he describes Santa Fe as a king. What does it mean?

Successful design works if you remember the car even when you’re not looking at it – Nicola Danza

That on the chessboard all the pieces have the same design language on the base, from the pawn to the queen, and this base must be a common feature despite all the differences that show all the pieces.
