Surprisingly, with new car sales falling, Kia and Hyundai are showing good balance. What is the secret of success?
Each car concern uses common components in the brands it owns. Hyundai, which owns the Kia brand, does it too. The Hyundai Tucson and the Kia Sportage have many features in common: the floor plate, the drivetrain, and the engine. The use of similar elements in different products is obvious today. The only problem is
on separate branding. For our comparison, the Kia and Hyundai are powered by the same 113hp 2.0 CRDI diesel engine.
At the beginning of the 90s, the Kia Sportage did a great job with us, because it was a cheap car with a dangerous appearance on the real road. Its new generation
The car looks attractive, like the Tucson, which, however, has a completely different body shape. Both recreational and off-road vehicles have independent bodies. Thanks to the stylistic efforts of the buyer, it seems that he is dealing with different cars. The height of the Sportage and Tucson are almost identical, as is the wheelbase. The interiors of both cars are spacious, but the Hyundai’s front seats are
higher seats and therefore more comfortable. The finish quality is average.
The luggage compartment of Hyundai has a volume of only 325 l, and Sportage – 667. The data is provided by manufacturers who, however, sometimes make mistakes. In both cars, small objects can be inserted through the flipped glass in the lid
trunk The same drive train was used in both cars. In normal conditions, the front wheels of the car are constantly driven, but if necessary, the car is also transferred to the rear wheels (up to a maximum of 50%), due to the installation of a viscous clutch. The driver also has the option to activate the permanent drive on both axles in a 50:50 ratio with the push of a button.
Both cars are powered by the same diesel engine, which reaches 113 HP from a capacity of 2 liters. It is an engine with 4 valves in each cylinder, supercharged with a turbocharger and is driven by a common rail system. These are common solutions in modern diesels. The engine runs well and fuel consumption in the city is about 9.5 liters per 100 km.
The dynamics of both cars are almost identical and are quite sufficient for good movement on our roads. Thanks to the good all-wheel drive system, driving on asphalt roads, even in bad road conditions, for example in the rain, is quite safe.
Both cars are also very quiet when cornering. At 100 km / h, it is a little quiet in the interior of the Sportage. In the most difficult areas, Kia and Hyundai cope well, although the route used is not ideal for very difficult terrain conditions. Besides, no one expects special off-road properties from an SUV. The Sportage has a shorter stopping distance than the Tuscona.
The Kia Sportage and Hyundai Tucson have similar spacious interiors and similar driving characteristics. The difference is primarily in the exterior and materials. Hyundai has more equipment, which is more expensive than Sportage by 2 thousand. zlotys. However, you have to pay PLN 99,900 for the Tucson and it’s not a privilege. The only hope is for traders who show some willingness to negotiate. Petrol powered versions are cheaper.
