GMC’s New Electric Pickup Lineup Will Beat the Cybertruck by 100 Miles

The latest electric pickup on the market may go farther than Tesla’s Cybertruck — literally.

GMC announced final details for its new Sierra EV Denali 1 Edition, including a range of 440 miles – a 10% increase from the original 400-mile estimate.

That’s also 100 miles more than the Cybertruck, its highest-profile competitor, which has an advertised range of 340 miles for its top-of-the-line version.

It would also beat many other electric pickups on the market, including the Rivian R1T, Ford Lightning, and GMC’s Hummer EV, all of which get less than 330 miles. The only real competition will be the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV, which has maximum range of 450 miles.

The Cybertruck lineup has been the subject of controversy, as some buyers were disappointed that it won’t have the 500-mile range that Elon Musk originally promised. Additionally, a few customers claimed that its actual battery life is much shorter than the officially advertised 340 miles.

Tesla did not respond to a request for comment before publication.

The Denali Edition 1, the first-ever Sierra EV, will also feature significant increases in payload and towing power from GMC’s previous lineup.

Even with an impressive new lineup, it’s unclear how strong demand will be for the new Denali, given the declining demand for expensive EVs (and especially for electric pickups). Automakers have responded by slowing EV production (including GM, which said last year it would be be late some of his electric pickups).

Delivery of the Denali Edition 1 is expected to begin this summer, starting at $99,495, GMC said, followed by other trim levels such as the Sierra EV Elevation and Sierra EV AT4.
