Small SUVs are rare among name-brand brands. We go no further than the Audi Q2 and Volvo EX30. Alfa Romeo Milano is number three. And unlike the Q2 and EX30, the Alfa caters to both EV drivers and petrolheads.

Well, in summary in the introduction, we have DS 3 in Lexus LBX jump But those cars fall into different categories based on the history of the brand.

Back to Alfa Romeo. That has been betting on too few horses for too long. Alfa lovers had to work with only two models for a long time until 2021: Giulia and Stelvio. Beautiful cars with excellent driving characteristics, but they had no answer to the global electric trend.

Sales figures continued to decline and the Tonale, launched in 2022, failed to attract large numbers of buyers to Alfa showrooms.

Alfa Romeo Milano as an EV and on petrol

The new Milano must now take that role. It is the first Alfa Romeo to be sold with a fully electric powertrain, but it is also available as a petrol hybrid. While the Tonale was still on a base plate made by the old Fiat group, the Milano is a genuine Stellantis product. So he uses the popular (e-) CMP platform, such as Opel Mokka, Peugeot 2008, Fiat 600 in Jeep Avenger.

Is the Milano a real Alfa Romeo?

However, Alfa Romeo has managed to give the Milano its unique look. Of course, the classic grille of the Scudetto is not lost. It looks different depending on the version. With the usual and familiar Leggenda, and Progresso we see the part of the snake from the Alfa logo. In the headlights, design elements from the Alfa Tonale and Renault-like components are combined. We’re even more excited about the boomerang taillights that evoke memories of the Maserati 3200 GT.

Sufficient trunk space

In profile you can recognize the Milano as an Alfa Romeo by the wheel design. Inside, the Alfa’s instrument channels and round air vents provide a feast of recognition. Additionally, the infotainment screen is attractively oriented towards the driver. Alfa Romeos are not necessarily known for their practical qualities, but with a capacity of 400 liters, the cargo space of the Milano definitely stands out in this compact segment.

Alfa Romeo Milano range

Beneath the surface we encounter many familiar materials. Let’s start with the completely electric Milano. It combines a 54 kWh battery pack with a 156 hp electric motor – as with all other Stellantis models. There are also differences. Unlike many of its Stellantis cousins, the Milano is also available with a 240 hp electric powertrain under the name Veloce. The Milano’s most economical electric battery pack provides a range of 410 km.

Alfa Romeo got 100 kW for fast charging capability quickly enough This should allow you to charge the battery from 10 to 80 percent within half an hour. The Italians also promise a navigation system that offers smarter payment suggestions to the driver.

Also with a petrol engine

With the electric Milano, Alfa Romeo is targeting a similar customer group Volvo EX30, but with the Milano Ibrida, Alfa Romeo has a second iron in the fire. Because if you want a small SUV from a luxury brand, but not an EV, you can just go with Audi Q2 for justice. The Milano Ibrid uses the same fine, 136 hp mild hybrid drivetrain as the Citroën C5 Aircross, among others.

It consists of a 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine, with a timing chain and assisted by a turbo with variable geometry. A six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission takes the task of shifting out of the driver’s hands. In addition, the 28 hp electric motor ensures that the car can drive completely electric and therefore emission-free for short distances. Later there will also be the Milano Ibrida Q4, with an electric motor driving the rear wheels.

Alfa Romeo Milano price?

The Milano can be ordered from May 2024, with the first deliveries taking place in September. It is still unclear how much money you have to save for it as a Dutch or Belgian buyer. If Alfa Romeo really wants to compete with the Volvo EX30 with an electric version (prices from 36,795 euros), the prices will have to be very strong. But it is doubtful whether this is also the case for the introductory version of the Speciale.

Despite its name after the birthplace of Alfa Romeo, the Milano is built in the Polish town of Tychy, just like the Jeep Avenger and the Fiat 600.
