IMSA: Pascal Wehrlein in the Porsche 963 at 24h Daytona / FIA WEC

The Porsche works driver will compete in the Daytona 24h in January 2025 in a Porsche 963 from the JDC-Miller MotorSports customer team. The race in Florida is the start of the US IMSA series.

As is known, Porsche not only races in the FIA WEC with the 963 model, but also in the American IMSA series. The start of the season is always a big deal there. These are the 24th Daytonas, which will take place on the 25th/26th of 2025. January is scheduled. Pascal Wehrlein will also compete at the vintage Daytona International Speedway in 2025. The current Formula E world champion drives a Porsche 963 from the JDC-Miller MotorSports customer team.

Of course, Wehrlein won’t be competing only in long distance races. He shares the cockpit with Dutchman Tijmen van der Helm and American Bryce Aron. For Wehrlein, the Porsche 963 is not entirely new. In November 2024, he had already tested a hybrid model from JDC-Miller MotorSports during testing at Daytona. In addition, he participated in a test in 963 at Sebring in October 2022.

“I always wanted to participate in sports cars – that is one of my goals as a racing driver,” explains Wehrlein. “Now I have a chance to prove myself there too. I am very happy! Tests in mid-November with JDC-Miller MotorSports went well. The Porsche 963 reminded me of the DTM cars of my time.”

In fact, not only the 963 from JDC-Miller MotorSports will start at Daytona in 2025. The Porsche Penske Motorsport works team has two cars. Matt Campbell, Mathieu Jaminet and Kévin Estre are in starting number #6. Felipe Nasr, Nick Tandy and Laurens Vanthoor drive the sister car and #7. There is also a private 963 from Proton Racing. So far only Gianmaria Bruni and Neel Jani have been confirmed as drivers.

Porsche has a total of eight drivers in the 963 program. In addition to the aforementioned Campbell, Jaminet, Estre, Nasr, Tandy and Vanthoor, there are Julien Andlauer and Michael Christensen. Porsche will decide in the coming weeks if it will present a third works car at the 24h Le Mans 2025. Le Mans is known to be the highlight of the WEC.

At Le Mans, three drivers always share a car. If a third works car appears, the Swabians would certainly need a ninth driver (along with eight 963 active drivers). Pascal Wehrlein certainly has a role in the relevant considerations.
