With a five-seat EQC, Mercedes-Benz entered the field of mass mobility. The car is based on the best-selling combustion engine GLC.

But sales figures are modest. Even in its best year of sales, it did not have 4,000 new registrations in Germany.

That is one of the reasons why it will be completed in May next year – after only four years. Business Insider has internal documents proving this.

The Stuttgart-based Mercedes-Benz group intends to stop building its first all-volume electric model, the EQC off-roader, next year. This is indicated by the internal documents from the paid manufacturer which are available from Business Insider. The all-wheel drive was only launched in mid-2019.

The secret letter to the sales partners of the label “Stern” contains the heavy text “Production up to the decade of 3/05/2023” in a series cited by the manufacturer and work code N 293. Translated from the common word in Mercedes-Benz, this means that the car will be repaired for the last time in the third third of May next year.

The first quarter of 2023 was released in the document as at the time of delivery of the EQC 400 4MATIC version of the four-door car, which costs 63,093.80 euros, based on the manufacturer’s environmental bonus. This also applies to EQC 400 4MATIC AMG Line, which is available for bonuses from EUR 70,233.80.

Asked by Business Insider whether the declared end of EQC production in May 2023 was in line with the manufacturer’s original plans or if the service life of this car had been shortened at the same time, a Mercedes-Benz spokesman replied: “We do not. on the ranks of the future and their planning “.

It will not remain with the “six pack”.

It is clear that the EQC was not and is not a major sales success. By 2019, the Federal Motor Vehicle Authority had registered only 548 new registrations for clean electric vehicles in Germany. In the following year there were 3155 units, in 2021 3825.

1147 EQC registration is known for the first half of this year. The launch of the EQC market in the prestigious US market, which Mercedes-Benz originally intended, never took place.

The Mercedes-Benz group currently has six types under the product label and “EQ” technology: two sedans called EQE (V 295) and EQS (V 297), three EQA SUVs (H 243), EQB (X 243) and EQC and Van EQV. In addition, the Smart car brand has city EQ Coupé and EQ Cabrio races in its range. Swabians want to significantly expand their range of electric vehicles. In the SUV industry, among other things, parallel derivatives of EQE and EQS will be provided.

Three more productions stand out

Mercedes-Benz presented the Stromer EQC, which is based on its standard GLC route, in early September 2018 in the Swedish capital Stockholm. At the time, Dieter Zetsche acted as CEO. His successor, the current CEO of Ola Källenius, was responsible for “Mercedes-Benz Group Research and Development” – and was born in Sweden.

The vehicle was built in the German Mercedes-Benz area of Bremen and in the Beijing Benz Automotive (BBAC) in Beijing, China. In the future, Mercedes-Benz could use the “EQC” name which will soon be released to electricians only with the new derivatives of its C-Class (W / S 206), which are offered as a combustion and hybrid engine.

The Stuttgart Company received a coupé (C 205) and a convertible (A 205) from its predecessor, the C-Class with factory codes W / S 205, both of which are still available. Internal documents now have the text “Production up to a decade 3/03/2023” for an open vehicle, with a tin roofed version that says “Production up to a decade 3/04/2023”.

In addition to these “Stern” models, which will be put on the conference line in their current form for the last time in March and April next year, the end of the GLC Coupé (C 253) is also approaching: “Production up to a decade 3/03/2023 “, states the State of the Plan by July 4 this year. The GLC component of the GLC range, the X 253, will be replaced by Mercedes-Benz in September with the X 254.
