This is how Bentley shows how ‘green’ it is at Goodwood

We deliberately put the word ‘green’ in brackets, because of course there is nothing environmentally friendly about Bentley. The British luxury brand recently said goodbye to the W12 and now sells models with a V8 engine. This amazing Bentayga EWB is confusing…

But let’s not be too hard on Bentley. A brand has to start somewhere. And it does so with sustainable energy produced from biomass waste. That’s why this company’s Bentayga EWB tows a trailer with 2.5 tons of leaves.

Bentley’s fastest car with trailer

Bentley claims to set the unofficial record on the Goodwood hill. The Bentayga EWB is now the fastest car with a trailer behind it on the small course, with a start-to-finish time of 1.21 minutes.

The manufacturer also reports that all modern Bentleys at the Goodwood Festival of Speed run on the aforementioned fossil fuels. The brand would achieve a CO2 reduction of 85 percent.

Plant energy can be controversial

With biofuel from 2.5 tons of leaves from the Bentayga EWB Bentley claims it can drive 1,770 km. This does not require any modifications to the engine. The leaves are broken down by fermentation, producing ethanol, which can be converted into ethylene and then gasoline.

The use of biofuels has previously been criticized, because its production requires agricultural land to grow the necessary raw materials. By simply picking up the garbage, this problem is avoided.

The use of a ‘spectacular’ V8?

Bentley debunks its story a bit by touting “impressive fuel consumption” for the Bentayga EWB’s 550 hp 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8. Then the brand has not mentioned how attractive the fuel consumption is.

That’s probably on purpose, because a WLTP consumption of 1 in 7.7 is certainly not impressive at all. Or should you explain the fact that the eight cylinder is not as efficient.
