James Rossiter returns to Formula E

James Rossiter returns to Formula E after his surprise exit as Maserati team boss. The Brit will be bolstering the TV team for the Electric World Championship from next season’s opener in Mexico City (Saturday, January 13th live on DF1 in Germany and ServusTV in Austria). Rossiter will be in front of the camera on the English-language World Feed and Formula E’s new home in the UK, the TNT Sports pay-per-view channel.

Should the 40-year-old, who has competed in two WEC races for Peugeot in 2022, be allowed to discuss the reasons for his departure from Maserati? The Italian team, the former MSG or Venturi Championship, did not want to make any comments in the online media round on Monday this week. Who will replace Rossiter at Maserati as the new team boss has not yet been decided a few days before the first race and will only be announced after the start.

A new TV team with familiar faces

In the UK, Formula E TV coverage is produced by Whisper TV, whose founders include former Formula 1 and DTM driver David Coulthard. TNT’s on-camera lineup also includes longtime Formula E reporter Nicki Shields, former F1 and Formula E driver Karun Chandhok, four-time IndyCar champion Dario Franchitti and former Audi team boss Allan McNish.

The new presenter will be former professional footballer Jermaine Jenas, who rose to fame in his native England on the BBC’s football formats. Guest appearances by Porsche career driver Andre Lotterer, Jamey Chadwick, Billy Monger and Coulthard, among others, have also been announced. Along with Rossiter, the company has taken on another expert who knows the current Formula E as team boss and is also familiar with the Gen3 racing car from testing and development.

Rossiter: Many Formula E drivers can become F1 world champions

The long-distance driver tested Formula E cars for Venturi and Techeetah in 2017 and joined DS Techeetah as sporting director and reserve driver in 2020. With current Porsche works driver Antonio Felix da Costa, Techeetah won the driver’s championship and the team in the ‘Corona season’ of 2020. Maserati signed Rossiter as the new team boss of Maximilian Günther and Edo Mortara from the 2023 season and finished sixth overall on his debut.

“The E system has grown exponentially over the past six years,” says Rossiter. “It’s picked up speed and now it’s calmed down a bit. But I think it’s important now to bring the racing atmosphere to the fans. The racing is very exciting and the characters are fantastic. The characters we have in the paddock are fantastic. Most of the drivers have the talent to drive in Formula 1 and the possibility of winning the championship in Formula 1.”

Rossiter’s favorites for the Formula E championship

Asked about his favorite titles, Rossiter, who was an F1 test driver for Force India until 2013, replied: “You’ve got to look at Jaguar with Nick Cassidy and Mitch Evans. I think it’s going to be a fantastic fight and we’re going to have great local competition. Watch it two childhood friends who have been competing since they were five or six years old to win the championship.

“A few others also have the car to do that. I think Porsche will fight. I think they are very hurt to lose the championship to their customer team (Andretti with Jake Dennis; editor). I have worked with Antonio Felix da Costa in the past and I think he will be back this year after focusing his energies on Formula E and no longer participating in the World Endurance Championship I think we will be a beast to see what Antonio did well in his championship season.
