Mercedes-Benz is recalling nearly 341,000 vehicles worldwide to garages due to potential fire hazards. This applies to the GLE and GLS models from 2017 to 2023. ANP reports this in response to a report from the German transport regulator, Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (KBA).

A defective screw connection of the power cord may come loose, causing a short circuit, possibly causing a fire. The affected vehicles are checked in the workshop and repaired if necessary. It has not been announced if any cars caught fire due to the problem.

11,000 Mercedes are being recalled in Germany. A spokesperson for Mercedes-Benz Netherlands cannot yet say how many GLE and GLS SUVs are being recalled in the Netherlands. “We are now taking stock of this, customers will be informed about this,” the spokesperson told the news agency.

Short circuit

He said the recall is about a 48 volt lower part under the passenger seat that may not be properly protected. “And in the worst case, that could cause a short circuit, a fire,” the spokesman said.

Earlier this year, Mercedes-Benz recalled diesels in the Netherlands and Germany. This concerned thousands of Mercedes models sold in the Netherlands between 2009 and 2017 where the exhaust gas distribution was changed to reduce nitrogen emissions.
