On the beach near Burgh-Haamstede, two women were hit by a Jeep driver on Friday evening. They were injured in the process. The driver initially drove away, but later surrendered to the police.
The accident happened around 8:00 pm on Westenschouwen beach. Two German women were sitting on the beach in the dark when they were hit by an off-road vehicle. A woman (40) was seriously injured. The other woman (40) suffered minor injuries.
The police started an investigation and arrested the suspect around 9:15 pm. He came up with new facts in his statement. Later, in consultation with the Public Prosecutor, it was decided to release the man. The driver of the off-road vehicle later surrendered to the police. The vehicle has been seized for technical examination.
The police continue to investigate the cause of the accident.
