Jorge Martin (Ducati): Power on the brakes was not there / MotoGP

You can watch the MotoGP show in Austin many times and you will probably never get bored. Even though he couldn’t fight for victory after his fiasco and crashes on Saturday, Jorge Martin was able to regain his championship lead with his Pramac Ducati.

“I expected that the situation would be worse,” explains the vice world champion, who had to bow to his Bagnaia teammate Enea Bastianini at the end of the main race and thus miss the podium. “I’m in good shape, but we had no other choice than the soft rear tyre. It was difficult – we didn’t try to use Michelin.”

For the 26-year-old Madrilenian, the race did not go according to plan: “I had a little credit for Marc and Pedro – but I made a mistake in turn 11 – it went too far again on the eighth lap. Then they caught me and passed me on the brakes, so I wasn’t very strong this time. I just gave it my all in the last five laps. But 13 points was a good fight.”

Martin continues: “I’m not looking at the World Cup at the moment. But I’m happy that we already have 80 points, that’s a lot. We should be happy. This route is good, we are just focusing on ourselves and trying to improve the results for 2023. Austin is also a slope where we have had problems in the past. “So the result is very good and it is better to be ahead of the World Cup than behind.”

But for Maverick Viñales, the entire Ducati package could have a new World Championship challenger. Martin also refers to this: “I think many drivers can fight for the title. Pecco is still a favorite. He is number 1. We have Marc and we also have Pedro. He is very good and stable. It is important that we are quick and consistent at all times.”

“Five podium finishes in six races is very good and if we finish fourth on a bad weekend, then we’re happy to accept that. I felt a few vibrations, maybe one or two tenths per lap during the race. That’s not natural, but it’s not an excuse either . We have to solve this.”
