Jay Leno was spotted driving his vintage 1957 Buick Roadmaster – the day after he was officially granted custody of his wife Mavis Leno.

The talk show legend, 73, drove around Los Angeles on Wednesday in his sleek midnight blue car that was once featured on his show, Jay Leno’s Garage.

Leno, dressed in his usual denim look, kept his eyes on the road as he sat in traffic, one hand on the wheel and the other resting on his face.

The star was seen receiving a phone call sometime on the road, while he was driving on the road with his phone pressed to his ear.

It comes after Leno was granted custody of Mavis, 77, due to her ongoing battle with dementia.

People reported that during yesterday’s hearing in Los Angeles Superior Court, Mavis’ lawyer said he was in agreement with the reservation.

The former Tonight Show host asked the Los Angeles Superior Court in January to be appointed as his conservator because his condition makes him unable to take care of his own affairs.

In court on Tuesday the judge agreed, saying: ‘I think he is in a restricted environment. I think he is in very good care with Mr. Leno.’

The station reported that he spoke to Leno saying: ‘Everything you do is right. I completely understand this is a difficult period’, before confirming he was supposed to be her keeper.

Leno also told the court that he was in the process of planning the estate and reviewing his wife’s will.

In last week’s filing in support of Leno’s petition, her attorney Ronald Ostrin said her declining mental capacity had brought grief to their ‘perfect’ marriage of 43 years.

‘According to (Mavis’) neurologist, Dr. Hart Cohen, has advanced dementia, sometimes doesn’t know her husband Jay, nor his date of birth,” Ostrin said.

‘He has many problems, he will tell about his parents who died and his mother who died 20 years ago.’

Dr. Cohen told Ostrin that Leno ‘loves his wife very much and wanted to bring this matter up in her honor.

Ostrin says he reviewed all of Dr.’s medical records. Cohen before speaking privately with Mavis herself.

“We had a long opportunity to talk to each other and we talked about his wishes and desires regarding conduct (conservation) and about his will wishes,” he writes.

‘Mrs. Leno was a lovely person, and although he was clearly cognitively impaired, he still had a lovely personality and could communicate.’

Dr. Cohen added: ‘He expressed an interest in voting and told me a little about his charity work.

He showed great faith and trust in Mr. Leno and relied on him for his protection and guidance.’

After completing his investigation into Mavis’s condition and also interviewing Leno, Ostrin supported the comedian’s motion to retain the comedian.

In a brief exclusive interview with DailyMail.com in January, just after filing for custody, Leno said of Mavis, ‘She’s fine, everybody’s good, we’re doing well. I just put a will, if something happens.’

In her court filing, Leno’s lawyers said Mavis ‘lacks the necessary capacity to carry out an estate plan’ due to her ‘severe neurocognitive problems (including dementia)’.

The legal documents added: ‘Jay is fully capable of continuing to support Mavis’ physical and financial needs as he has throughout their marriage.

‘Jay wishes to execute an estate plan, including a revocable trust and will, that will provide for Mavis’s brother and Mavis and her sole surviving heir besides Jay.’

The couple were spotted attending his comedy show in West Hollywood last week, being photographed holding heads as they left The Improv.
