The Celebrity Theater in Phoenix was packed with fans awaiting the arrival of Steve Hackett on Saturday, April 13, as guitarist Steve Hackett was rushed to the hospital from backstage.
Hackett shared a photo of himself in a hospital room on Facebook Sunday afternoon to accompany a post about what happened.
“I’m so sorry for the scare,” he wrote.
“I was hoping to dominate through the Phoenix show but I had a sinus infection and a last-minute adverse reaction to the medicine. So, the doctors took me to the hospital. Now I’m recovering and I’m happy that I’m feeling fine. I was very good. I’m sad about missing the show and I will return to play in Phoenix as soon as possible.
The post was signed, “With warm wishes, Steve.”
The tour was part nostalgia, part new material
The concert was part of a tour that features Hackett revisiting “Foxtrot,” one of several original albums he made with Genesis, while also showcasing highlights from “The Circus and the Nightwhale,” the solo album he released in February.
In an exclusive interview with The Republic, Hackett talked about the tour.
“I’m opening the doors of the museum in the revised sense of Genesis,” he says, “but I’m also doing new things to make it relevant so I don’t get too attached to my past with all those beautiful, beautiful displays. although they are, but they have a certain time value.”
Will the show be refunded?
The tour was brought to Phoenix by Danny Zelisko Presents.
DZP representative Kathy “Koz” Perschke said they are trying to reschedule the performance, noting that Hackett has been released from the hospital. “If it’s not rescheduled, obviously, people will get their money back. It will go directly to the credit card the ticket was purchased from.”
