Kia Ceed car review

The selection in the classic compact class is huge – VW Golf, Opel Astra, Toyota Corolla or Ford Focus cavort there. Ceed from Kia is also representative. Tips for buying used.

As if Kia had to break away from its South Korean origins, the manufacturer talks about its compact class as “true Europe”. Which is also largely true: because the second generation Ceed under consideration was also designed at the Kia design center in Frankfurt am Main, developed at the research and development center in Rüsselsheim and produced at the Kia plant in Žilina in Slovakia.

The model name stands for “European Community and European Innovation”. A segment that competes against cars such as the VW Golf or the Opel Astra is popular on the continent. However, the Ceed does not cause leaps and bounds during the main inspection.

Car insurance: what class will your municipality be in from 2023

model history: After the highly praised launch of the model series in 2007, the second generation came to the market in 2012. It was on sale until 2018 – more updated, different in the interior and more different. The facelift from 2015 was barely noticeable on the outside, bringing a dual-clutch transmission for the first time and Kia’s new three-cylinder petrol engine.

physical differences: You had to choose between a five-door hatchback in Golf format, which is typical of the compact class, a station wagon with the additional abbreviation “sw” (Sportswagon) and a three-door Pro Cee’d as a coupé, which he came in showrooms in 2013.

Dimensions (according to ADAC): 4.31 m to 4.51 mx 1.78 mx 1.47 m to 1.49 m (LxWxH), trunk volume: Pro Ceed: 380 l to 1225 l; Ceed: 380L to 1318L; Ceed en: 528 l to 1642 l.

Strengthen: The position is good and flexible, the chassis is adjusted correctly, the design often meets the customer’s taste. The springs and dampers perform well on the HU, and the brake lines and hoses are “perfect” according to the “Auto Bild Tüv 2022 Report”.

The indicators and exhaust system reap comparatively few complaints. Fuel consumption also remains below average, while emissions test (AU) rarely cause problems for Kia.

weakness: The report also writes: “Flawless specimens are frequently represented in HU.” In terms of chassis, the Ceed collects high levels of complaints in the second check.

Also subject to criticism: poorly positioned low beam, defective headlights and taillights as well as brake discs, which are often worn from the second HU at the age of three. Foot brake and parking brake function is impaired throughout.

broken behavior: Mixed verdict from ADAC: While the young models from the first registration year 2017 performed well in the club analysis statistics, 2012 was a “year of problems”.

Kias from 2013 and 2014 are still below average, while those from 2015 and 2016 appear in the middle of the data collection. The main combinations are batteries (2012 to 2016) and spark plugs (2012).
