Jeep is launching the electric Wagoneer S, also for us

While the luxury SUV is an important category for many automakers today, there was a time when only two brands were brave enough to step out of the quagmire onto the highway. Range Rover, although the first versions were still spartan. And Jeep and Grand Wagoneer.

The original Wagoneer, known locally as the Full Size Jeep, FSJ or SJ, debuted in 1963 and would remain the same for decades with only minor technical modifications. The first hints of luxury came in the form of the Super Wagoneer, which then-Jeep owner Kaiser launched in 1966. Packed with luxury extras that were hitherto completely alien to a ‘truck’. Such as power brakes, advanced radio and power steering.

The Jeep Grand Wagoneer nameplate was around in 1984, when most models were equipped with the American 5.9-liter V-8. Good for 140 hp. The entry-level car still had a 4.2-liter six-cylinder. All-wheel drive remained standard, as did wood trim.

Wagoneer Anno Nu

In late 2022, Jeep announced plans to launch a few electric models by 2025. The announcement included early concept photos of these upcoming EVs, giving motorists their first glimpse of the Jeep Recon, Jeep Avenger and Jeep Wagoneer S, which finally comes the Netherlands. The Jeep Wagoneer S should be available at dealerships this summer as a fully electric vehicle.

The upcoming Jeep Wagoneer S retains many of the features of the existing Wagoneer, while taking a major technological leap forward. It features a body that puts a stylish twist on the familiar Wagoneer design language – including a futuristic version where the taillights feature a signature seven-slot grille.

Following the teaser we showed late last month, Jeep has unveiled its all-new Wagoneer S all-electric model. Following in the footsteps of the original 1963 Wagoneer, this marks the first in a line of electric vehicles that Jeep will bring to market by 2025.

Unlike existing Wagoneer models, the all-electric S-spec is a mid-size SUV. At least, by American standards. Here it is just BIG. Although the new model is fully electric, it retains much of the character and DNA of its petrol predecessor, with a modern twist.

The car is built on a completely new, original BEV-STLA-Large platform. The Kolossus moves forward thanks to an EV drive that is good for an impressive 600 hp. This allows the Wagoneer S to deliver a sports car worthy 0-100 time of 3.5 seconds. The battery pack provides a range of approximately 640 km.

The 2025 Wagoneer S comes standard with Jeep’s 4xe configuration and all-terrain performance, as befits its nature. The Jeep Wagoneer S features a wide double-glazed sunroof as standard and, in an extension of the Jeep brand’s unique partnership with McIntosh, a 19-speaker premium sound system.

Jeep Wagoneer S prices will be announced soon.
