Kia ProCeed GT – “Just keep going”

Kia ProCeed GT – “Just keep going”

There are not many Shooting Brakes – one of them is the ProCeed from Kia, which with its hump emphasizes sportiness without forgetting its suitability for everyday use.

Because the compact with the suffix GT – more on that later – has a length of 4.60 meters and a trunk volume of 594 to a maximum of 1545 liters and plenty of head, leg and side space for its five occupants. Not only the silhouette shows that the Korean is representative of sports, but also the amazing aluminum 18 and the LED light that goes on at the back.

The GT model has also gained a dynamic personality through additional unique design features. The new double-molded grille combines gloss black with a red background texture, and the new ‘wing’ trim here features dark chrome.

The differently shaped red strips on either side of the lower air intakes provide a nice contrast to the glossy black grille. There are also new red stripes on the back. They focus on the diffuser integrated in the bumper, which is placed on the left and right by the circular tubes of the rear dual-flow regulator with valve control.

GT, that means 1.6-liter four-cylinder – naturally charged – with 204 hp, front-wheel drive, seven-speed automatic and a maximum of 265 Newton meters. On paper, that seems about right for an unladen weight of 1.46 tonnes, but in practice the last hint of playfulness is missing. Although the sound is solid and uplifting, the ProCeed doesn’t transmit real power to the front wheels, even in sport mode.

Finally, the Kia drives flawlessly: the seven-speed automatic transmission is crisp and flawless, the steering is precise and direct, and the chassis is sporty and taut, but not spine-crushing. Overall, the car seems to be trying to be fuel efficient, but it’s only marginally successful.

The Bullet Brake allows itself more than seven liters per hundred kilometers, which gives an area of action of more than 700 kilometers and a tank of 50 liters – more than enough to continue far and wide, which is because of the ergonomic, tightly closed. The leather sport seats are a pleasure.

As befits a Kia, the arsenal of assistants is extensive, even if it is sometimes a little too awkward. Standard blind spot warning and traffic sign recognition are onboard as well as adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, cross traffic warning and emergency brake assist.

What appears to carry over to the ProCeed GT is standard equipment. This includes, among other things, light and rain sensors, special driver assistance systems, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated seats (also in the back), heated steering wheel, screen 10.25-inch touchscreen, rear camera (only with average resolution, especially in the dark), volume control, LED headlights, LED taillights, sunroof and of course aluminum pedals, USB ports and ports of electricity. For the Kia, which costs 44,640 ex works, only the painting costs extra.

It goes without saying that the workmanship and appearance of the material is top notch. In the trendy, yet elegant cockpit, you can find your way around immediately and the infotainment functions – via voice command or touch screen – work perfectly.

Conclusion

A Shaped Shooting Brake, which has more marks for everyday use, performance and an excellent price-performance ratio. However, he misses the final game.
