In its fourth generation, Kia Rio, which has been on the market since 2007, is not stingy with its charm. A lot has happened, for example in design, which was developed in Kia design centers in Frankfurt, in Irvine (California) and Namyang (Korea). A lot has also happened in terms of space, comfort and safety equipment. Overall, the Rio minivan can definitely compete with best sellers such as the Ford Fiesta, Opel Corsa or VW Polo in the four meter class.
For the Rio, Kia offers four gasoline engines, which are equipped with a five- or six-speed manual transmission, a six-speed automatic transmission or a two-speed seven-speed manual transmission. A 1.2-liter four-cylinder with 84 hp is used for the entry-level model. With 12.9 seconds, which passes at a speed of 173 kilometers per hour for the Rio 1.2 for the race from 0 to 100 km/h, you rely not entirely on research, but on application, to accelerate well enough.
In addition to good equipment, the long warranty period of 7 years is convincing. The Rio 1.2 in “Edition7” configuration has a base RRP of 15,590 euros. On the new car comparison portal Carwow, shopping offers start at 14,241 euros. If you don’t want to pay all at once – rental rates start at a low price 124 euros per month.
Kia Rio: equipment and rental information
Even the equipment line “Version 7” offers a lot of equipment with a radio display with 5 digits, an on-board computer, a twilight sensor, electrically adjustable exterior mirrors and a start system. If you need extra comfort like automatic air conditioning, heated seats or a heated steering wheel, you’ll have to go for the higher-end versions.
Safety equipment in the Kia Rio includes six airbags for each model, ESP with control assist, hill start assist and brake booster. The Rio’s suspension system is convincing. In the ADAC brake test, the Kia Rio 1.0 T-GDI came to a good 34.6 meters after stopping in an emergency from 100 km / h. The crash behavior of the body and the safety provided by the electronic assistants were rated just three out of five stars in the Euro NCAP crash test. If you want five-star safety, you have to pay extra for the Advanced Driving Assistance package.
Rental offer for 124 euros runs for 60 months. No deposit required. Annual mileage is 5,000 km. A one-time transfer fee of EUR 1,295 is payable.
Kia Rio: buy instead of lease
The comfortable little Kia Rio does not tear a big hole in the budget even as a purchase version. New car comparison portal Carwow is already selling the Rio as a 1.2-litre petrol engine in the “7th Edition” equipment line. 14,241 euros – including transfer costs. A saving of 15 percent compared to the list price of 15,590 euros.
