The Sportage PHEV combines a 180 hp turbo petrol engine with a 67 kW electric motor and a six-speed automatic transmission. The battery stores 13.8 kWh, which should be enough for only 70 kilometers of electricity. It is charged with up to 7.2 kW alternating current. In a 400-volt outlet and 32 amps, the battery goes from 10 percent to 100 percent in 1h45.
The appearance of the fifth generation Sportage includes a new grille and LED daytime running lights in an attractive boomerang shape. For the first time there is also a two-tone paint finish with a black roof. The external dimensions have not changed compared to the previous generation, but there should be more space in the back and in the trunk.
Prices start at 44,390 euros
The latter holds 540 to 1,715 liters for the plug-in hybrid, while other versions have a capacity of 750-1,695 liters depending on the price list. For PHEVs, closed trailers weighing up to 1,350 kg can also be connected, while otherwise it is 1,650 to 1,950 kg, depending on the engine.
Inside, there’s a 12.3-inch touchscreen and an equally large but optional instrument display, as well as one under the curved surface. Below it is the adjustable control bar familiar from the Kia EV6.
Prices start at 44,390 euros. After deducting 4,500 euros in government subsidies and a manufacturer’s bonus of 2,250 euros plus VAT, 37,213 euros remain. The brand’s standard seven-year warranty also applies to the drive battery. The Sportage is produced in Zilina, Slovakia.
In 2021, every third new Kia in Germany already had a charging option. The plug-in hybrid fleet now includes five types: the stainless steelXceed, the Ceed Sportswagon,, Sorrento and now also Sportage. The Sorento has the same PHEV technology as the Sportage.
