A serious review of ‘The White Lotus’, but set in the 1960s: ‘Palm Royale’

Will Palm Royale manage to get as good reviews as the popular The White Lotus series?

White Lotus it has already received positive reviews for two seasons. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about the new series Palm Royale. Because both series are set in beautiful locations with rich people, the two stories have often been compared recently. Bad luck with that Palm Royale People are a little more enthusiastic about it White Lotus.

Palm Royale tells the story of Max Simmons (Kristen Wiig), a newcomer who tries to get a place at the most exclusive resort club: Palm Beach. During his trials, he discovers exactly what he is willing to do to place in this world.

Production

In early 2022, it was announced that writer Abe Sylvia and director Tate Taylor will work together on a new project: Mr. American Pie. Slowly the talent poured in and Allison Janney, Leslie Bibb, Ricky Martin and Josh Lucas were cast.

The series was later given the title we all know now: Palm Royale. However, the name change did not require the entire series, as Palm Royale it has a measly 54% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Inspection

Although there are positive reviews, most critics agree with chief critic Nick Hilton of the Independent (UK): “It’s hard to find a balance between drama and comedy, but Palm Royale doesn’t do a good job with it”

The series also receives criticism for the story. Many critics believe that too much attention has been paid to the set design and not to the text. As Brian Tallerico of The Playlist says: “(…) looks good, but it doesn’t mean anything.”
