PEUGEOT 9X8 2024 unveils its new silhouette with unique colors | Peugeot

  • After several thousand kilometers of testing, the PEUGEOT TotalEnergies team is pleased to present the 2024 PEUGEOT 9X8, which will make its competitive debut at the 6 Hours of Imola (April 21), the second round of the 2024 FIA World Endurance Championship.

  • To take advantage of the changes in regulations that allow the team to use better tire placement with different widths at the front (29 cm) and rear axles (34 cm), the PEUGEOT Sport team has modified the aerodynamics of the PEUGEOT. 9×8. 90% of the body was preserved, which now has a rear wing.

  • For the third year in a row, PEUGEOT Design and PEUGEOT Sport have collaborated to create an exclusive special edition created exclusively by the PEUGEOT teams. The logo of a lion – a symbol of speed, flexibility and strength – is in the center of the design.

Rüsselsheim am Main, March 25, 2024. After his first full season in the FIA World Endurance Championship with an encouraging performance at Le Mans and a first podium finish in third place at Monza, and after sitting at the front for most of the first race of the season 2024 in Losail, PEUGEOT 9X8 with several important upgrades. Objective: This year, to take the leading role in the competitive hypercar class that will include nine manufacturers and nineteen prototypes.

In its original version, the PEUGEOT 9X8 was developed according to a series of specifications that corresponded to the 2020/2021 technical regulations. Between the car’s design phase and its launch in the summer of 2022, regulations changed, allowing increased performance in some areas. Therefore, some design settings have been modified to increase their potential and achieve the ambitious goals of the PEUGEOT TotalEnergies team.

“We made decisions that are no longer updated and this performance difference has not been properly compensated by the BOP (Balance of Performance) in 2023,” he explained. Oliver Jansonnie, Technical Director of PEUGEOT Sport. “So the idea was to return to the same car design as our competitors so that it can be handled equally in the BOP. For this reason, we decided not to use the same tire width of 31/31 cm on all wheels, but instead of 29 cm on the axle of front and 34 cm on the rear axle. It’s not really a new car as it has the same chassis, but there are many improvements. In order for the tires to work effectively, we had to change the center of gravity of the PEUGEOT 9X8, which meant moving some components and making others lighter. To achieve better aerodynamic balance, we also had to redistribute the aerodynamic loads, which led us to redesign almost 90 percent of the body panels and, more importantly, to add the rear wing to give us a better chance in the championship.”

In March 2023, the decision was made to rebuild the car for the 2024 season. Everyone at PEUGEOT Sport worked tirelessly to rebuild the car while also competing in the 2023 WEC season. “It was a project within a project that increased the team’s workload considerably,” continued Olivier Jansonnie “But we were able to count on the tireless commitment of the PEUGEOT TotalEnergies team and now we look forward to presenting the results of their hard work. The aim is of course to be at the front again and fight for for podium places and race wins.”

These improvements also provided the opportunity to continue the partnership with PEUGEOT Sport that began four years ago: “Following the elegant, timeless design of PEUGEOT’s return to endurance racing in 2022 and advertising created by visual artist Demsky for 2023,” Celebrating 100 years .commemorating the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the 30th anniversary of PEUGEOT’s victory at Le Mans, this time we have created a design that uses a ‘lion’s head’ in a different scale,” he explained. Matthias Hossann, Design Director at PEUGEOT. “This graphic design, symbolizing a ‘pride of lions”, conveys a sense of community that perfectly reflects the values of endurance racing.
We wanted to highlight this team spirit and the many talents in the team. The model is offered in a variety of sizes and colors from the PEUGEOT Sport color range, including black, grey, white and ‘Kryptonite’. This motif can also be found on lifestyle marketing products developed by PEUGEOT’s graphic design team.

After its last appearance at the 1,812 km of Qatar, the opening race of the 2024 FIA World Endurance Championship, which confirmed the progress of the PEUGEOT TotalEnergies Team, the 2023 version of the PEUGEOT 9X8 will now appear at the 6 Hours of Imola, second. circuit of the FIA WEC season, releasing the 2024 edition on April 21. PEUGEOT achieved an impressive double victory at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola in 2011.

From the team

Linda Jackson, CEO von PEUGEOT
“2023, the first full year in which Team PEUGEOT TotalEnergies competed in the FIA World Endurance Championship, was a rewarding experience for everyone involved, as the team took shape and showed its determination and passion, even when there were difficult times. For 2024 the goal is still the same: to win the race! We know the competition will be tougher this year, but our team has worked hard to create a 2024 version of the PEUGEOT 9X8 that perfectly reflects the values of the PEUGEOT TotalEnergies team part of this new era in endurance racing and we want to leave our mark on the sport.

Jean-Marc Finot, Senior Vice President Stellantis Motorsport
“First of all, I would like to congratulate and thank the entire PEUGEOT Sport team for a good job. It is really not a small thing to rebuild a part of the car in record time and at the same time to be able to compete in the 2023 season. The PEUGEOT 9X8 was originally developed for the 2020/2021 regulations, when LMHs had to have the same size tires front and rear. Since then the regulations have changed, allowing some of our competitors to fit larger tires in the rear. We thought that the BOP would be enough to cover our structural losses, but it was not. It was therefore necessary to redesign the car part to adapt to the new tire specifications. We had to change the center of gravity of the car, change the distribution of aerodynamic loads, add a rear wing, make light components, and so on. Our simulations and first test drives have shown that the car is more powerful. So we hope to remain in the top group with low weight and high power, but without approaching the BOP limit.
