Kubica says he is “calm” with the possibility of leaving F1: “At the age of 38, I am not surprised” – Formula 1 News – Grand Prix – Formula 1 News

return to Robert Kubica for the grid System 1 in 2019, eight years after a fatal rally accident that almost resulted in the amputation of his right arm, is one of the biggest stories to ever appear in the division’s more than 70 years. But last season’s free practice in Abu Dhabi may have marked the rider’s final participation in a GP weekend.

The reason will be the end of the relationship between the Polish oil company Orlen and Alfa Romeo. The company reached out F1 in 2019 and leave for Kubica for Williams. The following year, the oil company merged with the Hinwill foundation, which was renamed Alfa Romeo F1 Team Orlen. Kubica, in turn, accompanied the brand, taking the role of the Italian team’s third driver.

Orlen’s trip to AlphaTauri leaves the 38-year-old’s future uncertain, but he confirmed that he faces the possibility of not taking part in the official activities of the division this year in a natural way. “I’m calm,” he told the British magazine car games.

“I was always very honest, after all. Let’s be honest: at the age of 38, I won’t be surprised if I can’t drive anymore. [na F1]. There are many ‘ifs’, so let’s wait and see”, insisted the pilot.

The last time Kubica drove a luxury car F1 it was at the end of last year, in post-season testing in Abu Dhabi. Pole was also behind the wheel of an Alfa Romeo in FP1 at Yas Marina, as well as free sessions in Hungary, France and Spain.

“I think my story is about never saying never, of course. Honestly, the only reason I’m still here is that I always get a chance to drive, and the day I can’t drive any other cars will probably be the end.”
