There will be a newcomer in the GTP category at the next IMSA meeting at Laguna Seca (May 12-14). The third Porsche 963 will be at the start of the California round, that of the JDC-Miller Motorsport team. The American team will play for the first time in the first division of the championship in the Atlantic Ocean with the LMDh of Germany, together with Tijmen van der Helm and Mike Rockenfeller. The first game was delayed by the supply problems that affected the Stuttgart manufacturer at the beginning of the year.
This arrival comes to fill the GTP class, as 9 LMDh will be scheduled in Monterey. There is no change in the rest of the field: there will always be two Cadillacs (including that of Action Express Racing), two BMWs and two Acuras alongside the three Porsches entered.
LM P3 is gone, Andretti arrives in GTD
At Laguna Seca, there is no LM P3 but a field of 8 cars in LM P2 with two Frenchmen at the start: François Heriau and TDS Racing n°35 and Paul-Loup Chatin on PR1 Mathiasen n°52. The grid will be offered mostly in GT, with 5 GTD-Pro and 16 GTD.
The main novel for this 4th round of the season: the arrival of the Andretti Autosport team in GTD, with the Aston Martin Vantage n ° 94 driven by Jarett Andretti (co-owner of Andretti Autosport, of which Mario Andretti is his uncle) and Gabby Chaves. This GT3 entry comes on top of plans already announced by the team to compete in the Endurance Cup in the LM P3 category.
