The Urus helps Lamborghini achieve record sales

A total of 10,112 sports cars from the brand left the showrooms. According to Lamborghini, there is a particular interest in plug-in hybrids.

Italian sports car maker Lamborghini is posting record sales, thanks to strong demand for the Urus SUV. This is reported by ANP.

“2023 was the best year ever for Lamborghini,” the company reports. Sales increased last year by more than 12 percent to 2.7 billion euros. A total of 10,112 sports cars from the brand left showrooms, an increase of 9.5 percent.

The operating profit of Lamborghini, part of the German car group Volkswagen, increased by almost 18 percent to 723 million euros.

According to CEO Stephan Winkelmann, there is a two-year wait for the Revuelto, Lamborghini’s first plug-in hybrid. This super sports car costs around 500 thousand euros.

Anniversary

The sports car brand celebrated its 60th anniversary last year. Lamborghini wants to launch its first fully electric car, a four-seater, in 2028. Arch-rival Ferrari is set to launch its first electric sports car by the end of next year.

Electric conversion is not a regulatory obligation for manufacturers of exclusive sports cars. These small producers are eligible for exemptions from Europe’s strictest emissions restrictions, among others. The European Union is also enacting legislation to allow the use of so-called e-fuels, which could prevent the complete disappearance of combustion engines.
