The Hyundai Santa Fe XRT is a Land Rover Defender-one

Hyundai shows a concept version of a compact car based on the new Santa Fe. Will Hyundai compete with the Land Rover Defender with this car?

Hyundai showed the new version of the Korean SUV in mid-July. An attractive and square design with American elements. However, this XRT Concept doesn’t seem to compete against the American.

The Santa Fe as an XRT Concept looks a bit like a Land Rover Defender. With a ladder in the back, the jerry can go with the wheel on the roof rack, suddenly it has become a solid off-road SUV. It is not yet known if this version will go into production.

The regular Hyundai Santa Fe will in any case be available in the Netherlands. With a total length of 4.83 meters, a width of 1.9 meters, a height of 1.72 meters and a wheelbase of 2.81 meters, the SUV is bigger than ever. The interior has five seats and 725 liters of luggage space.

In the Netherlands only as a hybrid

In the Netherlands, the Hyundai Santa Fe is reportedly only available with a hybrid powertrain. A PHEV and a regular hybrid are planned. Both versions have a 1.6 GDi engine under the hood that produces 180 hp in the case of the hybrid and 160 hp in the case of the plug-in variant.

In other markets, the new Hyundai Santa Fe is also offered with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder. With the turbo, this four-cylinder engine produces 281 hp and without it 194 hp. We hope that the XRT version is not reserved for versions with a more powerful motor and the roadster – when it goes into production – will also be seen on Dutch roads.
