Lando Norris appraises that Aston Martin are in an advantageous position to close the gap to Red Bull in Formula One (F1). According to the British driver, the Silverstone-based outfit has the potential to become a major force in the sport, following their return as works team in 2021.
Norris, who drives for McLaren, noted that Aston Martin is in a far better position than when they first entered F1 in 1959. The 20-year-old driver highlighted the experience that the team possesses, with its technical director, Andrew Green, having been involved with the sport for more than 20 years.
“I think if you look at the team, the experience they have, the knowledge they have, the resources they have, I think they’re in a really good position,” Norris said.
He continued: “They have the resources, they have the know-how, with Andrew Green and the rest of the technical staff, and they have the experience. So, I think they’re in a really good spot to be really competitive and really close to Red Bull.”
Norris also spoke of Aston Martin’s impressive array of new partners, including top-level sponsors in the likes of Cognizant and Pirelli, as well as their new powertrain.
“They have a different power unit compared to Red Bull, which will be interesting to see,” Norris said. “But they’ve got a good car, they’ve got a good team, they’ve got good partners. So, they’ve got a lot of things that can make them very competitive.”
In conclusion, Norris believes that Aston Martin has the best chance of rivalling Red Bull in F1 and that the team has the potential to be a major force in the sport.
