Lando Norris has recently opened up about the departure of Formula One driver Daniel Ricciardo, admitting that he misses the Australian driver.

The McLaren driver expressed his sorrow at the loss of Ricciardo, who recently departed from the team to join Renault. Norris stated that the two had formed a close bond during their 2019 season together and that the young driver will miss their friendship.

“I miss him, honestly,” Norris said. “We were very close on and off the track. We got along really well, and I think we respected each other as drivers and people. I still keep in touch with him, but it’s not the same as having him around at the track.”

Norris noted that while Ricciardo’s departure was not unexpected, he still felt a sense of loss. The Briton praised Ricciardo’s technical skill and noted that while he was a strong competitor, they had developed a strong bond over the course of the season.

“He’s a great driver and I think he was an amazing asset to the team, so it’s difficult not to have him around,” Norris said. “We had a lot of fun together, and he was a real leader in the team. I think his absence will be felt for sure.”

Norris also said that he was looking forward to the challenge of racing with a new teammate in 2020, but that he’d miss Ricciardo’s presence and support.

“It’s going to be different next year, but I’m sure it will be a great season. I’ll miss him, but I’m excited to see how things go without him,” he said.
