The 2022 Ford GT LM Edition honors the achievement of the only American supercar to compete in the 24-hour race Le Mans many achievements – the first 1-2-3 victory was in 1966 and the last victory in 2016. This is also the last special edition of the third generation Ford GT.
“With the use of innovative materials, innovative design and innovative development, the Ford GT is different from other supercars,” said Mark Rushbrook, global director of Ford Performance Motorsports. “We’re closing the door on the Ford GT with the GT LM Edition. It gives us the opportunity to bring more character from the successful racing car to the road. It’s another tribute to our victory at Le Mans in 2016.
The Ford GT is and remains a unique car. These last twenty editions of LM contribute to just that. Deliveries of the 2022 Ford GT LM Edition will begin this winter and production will be completed by the end of this year.
Racing exterior style, asymmetric interior
The carbon fiber body of the 2022 Ford GT LM Edition wears a Liquid Silver color and features unique red or blue accents. A tribute to the red and blue Le Mans winning #68 Ford GT 2016.
For a unique look, customers can choose red or blue carbon fiber for the supercar’s aerodynamic features. The front splitter, sills, louvres in the hood, door mirror legs and rear diffuser are all finished in these colors. The 20-inch high-gloss carbon fiber wheels also feature color accents, complemented by titanium wheel bolts and black Brembo® brake calipers.
Unique to the Ford GT LM is the 3D-printed double titanium exhaust with spiral-shaped tips – a visual reference to the twin-turbo EcoBoost® engine of 485 kW (660 hp). Above the exhaust vents there is also a 3D printed GT LM badge.
The interior design of the Ford GT LM Edition is unique, with Alcantara® upholstered carbon fiber seats. The driver’s seat is available in red or blue, the passenger seat is upholstered in Ebony leather and has accents stitched in the color of the driver’s seat, such as the engine start button. The dashboard is also upholstered in Ebony leather and Alcantara, and the window pillars and headliners in Ebony Alcantara. Carbon fiber is also seen in the interior, on the center console, air vents and under the A-pillars. These carbon fiber elements have a matte finish.
Crankshaft with great racing history for all 20 GT LM Editions
The 2022 Ford GT LM Edition is a special bonus. The Ford Performance team has found a way to bring Le Mans success to a road car.
The engine of the third-placed Ford GT in 2016 (number 69) was dismantled after the race and parts were saved. The Ford Performance team ground this engine’s crankshaft into powder and assembled it into a unique alloy. This has been processed into a 3D printed badge, which can be found on the dashboard of all twenty copies of the special edition.
Tribute to the Ford GT at Le Mans: Ford vs. Ferrari 50 years later
The 2022 Ford GT LM Edition pays homage to the victory of the third generation of this supercar at Le Mans 2016. Ford GT #68 of Sébastien Bourdais (F), Joey Hand (USA) and Dirk Müller (D) arrived. first to cross the finish line.
In a manner reminiscent of the spectacular battle between Ford and Ferrari in 1966, the number 68 Ford GT finally took the lead in the twentieth hour of the race. Before that he went neck and neck with Ferrari number 82. Joey Hand was behind the wheel on all three occasions that Ford passed Ferrari, reviving the rivalry between the two brands fifty years ago.
Ryan Briscoe (AUS), Scott Dixon (NZ) and Richard Westbrook (GB) took third place with the #69 Ford GT among the winners on the podium. The 66 and 67 Fords GT finished fourth and ninth respectively.
The 2022 Ford GT LM Edition also pays tribute to the hard work of the Ford Chip Ganassi team. The team developed the car that won Le Mans in over a year (395 days).
