And 3.5 per mille on the A66: Ford driver flees from fire brigade

A 31-year-old Ford driver with a blood-alcohol level of 3.5 almost crashed into a fire engine on the A66 on Monday afternoon – and then made a snake-like escape. According to the West Hesse police report, he was followed by the fire department.

Around 12:40 pm, a 31-year-old man drove on the A66 towards Rüdesheim. However, he was so drunk that he almost crashed into a fire engine near Hofheim. The driver then stopped the Ford in the next lane and confronted the 31-year-old.

When the fireman smelled alcohol coming from the car, he called the police. A drunken man apparently didn’t want to wait for the patrol – and drove off instead. The firefighter followed the Ford, which was sometimes driving in a snaking line, and informed the highway police of its current location.

The 31-year-old man tried to shake the fire truck without success and was finally stopped and arrested by the police in Mainzer Strasse. A breath alcohol test showed what police said was a “strange” level of more than 3.5 parts per mille. The officers took the man to the office, confiscated his driver’s license and ordered a blood sample.
