Jeep Avenger can finally aim for height thanks to its new 4xe version?

Jeep has released a new version of its compact SUV, the Avenger. This model, which represents the gateway to the American manufacturer’s range, can now be equipped with all-wheel drive, as well as a mild hybrid engine. Order books are expected to open at the end of the year.

Jeep continues its electrification. After recently presenting its 100% electric Wagoneer S, the brand is continuing its efforts and is now expanding the range of its subcompact model, the Avenger. This, already available in petrol and electric versions, now has a new 48V hybrid version linked to the 4xe all-wheel drive. An engine that is clear is found under the hood of other models from the Stellantis group.

So far, only one image has been revealed by Jeep. So we will have to wait a few more weeks to be able to discover this new Avenger in detail. However, we can imagine that it will take elements of other versions, while perhaps adopting more muscular stylistic elements to emphasize its adventurous side.

A new type of all-wheel drive

This 4xe version has a 136 horsepower 1.2 Puretech engine with a 48V hybrid that powers the front axle. The rear axle supports two electric units of 21 kW, or 28 horsepower each. Jeep has not yet presented the official total power, but nevertheless announces a huge electric torque of 1,900 Nm An unrepresentative value since, again, it is not a total torque.

On the other hand, the brand says more about the 4xe system. We know that this version will be able to use 100% electricity in certain situations, especially at low speeds or during maneuvers. Don’t expect crazy freedom, Jeep just talks the talk “a few kilometers”. What is interesting, however, is the operation itself since then even once the batteries are almost dry, the Avenger 4xe will retain the advantage of 4-wheel drive thanks to the Power Lock system.

But then, can Avenger now claim real crossover power? Although it should be better than other versions, it is unlikely that it will be able to perform miracles, considering that it is a car designed as a small urban SUV and its power should remain normal. We still don’t know the selling price of this 4xe hybrid version, but it should be slightly less than the 156 horsepower 100% electric Avenger. Jeep is expected to open orders by the end of the year.
