BetCity Mazda MX-5 Cup: And that’s two for Timo de Graaff

Until the last lap, five riders still claimed victory. The group was fighting so hard that Timo de Graaff was able to finish and win this second race for Mazda with more than half a second ahead. Andras Király is back to take second place, just ahead of the pressing Marcel Dekker. Jordy van der Eijk led a few laps, but fell to fourth in the final lap. It was delicious again. The third and final match will follow this afternoon.Text: Submitted message

The starting grid for the first race is determined by the results of yesterday’s first race. It was again a true Mazda MX-5 Cup race without any difference. Timo de Graaff eventually won the first race by just 0.03 seconds ahead of Marcel Dekker. Both drivers start the second race of the weekend from the front row. Daan de Graaff, who finished third yesterday, starts with Leon van Verseveld one row behind. All the ingredients for another exciting match are there.

We spoke to Marcel Dekker beforehand: “In the second race we will continue what we started in the first. I had to start seventh. I always like that more, with the back grid, because then I can pass in the first few laps. Now they were strong again I was able to move forward through the field and was already in the lead on the third lap, but he was a bit overconfident at the end A few short seconds. But I have a good feeling in the car. We can compete for the win. Soon we will start from the second stage. We will see how we will do so in terms of tires. Because we only have one set of weekends, so we have to control that a bit. We will do our best again and make it a big battle again. Because we always do in the Mazda MX-5 Cup. Exciting again yesterday. We heard the best race of the weekend again and that’s what we’re doing.”

Leon Iserbyt left the Supercar Challenge and still needs to get used to Cup racing. “I have to go faster and get more heat in the tires anyway, I had a problem with that. Yes, the change from front-wheel drive to rear-wheel drive is a bit difficult for me. I still have to get used to the car, but we’ll see.”

Delano De Ketele is also looking forward to today’s matches. “It was a very close race yesterday. I hope to be able to go further today than yesterday. Due to the penalty I received, I was put back two places. I will start the second race from tenth place and see where we can go. Get a good start and then get into the group. I’m ready to pick up the pace.”

The warm-up starts badly for Leon van Verseveld, who goes off track before Gerlach spins on cold tires and hits the crash barrier on the inside. A tow truck will have to be used to remove the Mazda with the broken wheel. The fourth starting position therefore remains empty.
