The most successful partnership between a Formula 1 driver and a GP racing team is coming to an end: Lewis Hamilton will drive for Mercedes-Benz for the 246th time at the Yas Marina Circuit. In 2025 he will be at Ferrari.
Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes, together, that means 245 Grands Prix, 78 pole positions, 55 best laps, 84 GP wins, 153 podiums, 6 World Drivers’ Championship titles, 8 World Constructors’ Championship titles .
Hamilton has never had another Formula 1 engine in his cars other than Mercedes power, more than 20,000 racing laps and more than 100,000 kilometers of racing.
Mercedes writes about the Abu Dhabi GP: “Saying goodbye after a long journey together is more than listing records and statistics. It is a tribute to a wonderful personality; someone who has driven and led change in our sport.”
Mercedes has launched a global campaign “where we celebrate Lewis’ achievements and document the highs and lows of twelve seasons since 2013,”
“Every Dream Needs a Team” sets the stage for young Lewis Hamilton’s move to Formula 1 and the aspirations of the next generation he inspired; a generation that sees motorsport as a place where they can realize their hopes and dreams.
The focus is a film containing exclusive archival material from Lewis’ time with the team and from the beginning of his career.
The outdoor campaign featuring memorable images of Lewis and the Mercedes team will feature prominent landmarks in Kuala Lumpur, the UK and the US, including New York’s Times Square. During the Abu Dhabi race weekend, the campaign message can be seen on his car, highlighted by the names of 150 fans, representing the millions of loyal fans who have been part of this incredible journey.
George Russell came up with something special for last race weekend with Hamilton: On the back of his helmet, the two companions can be seen as cartoon characters, with the text – see you on the track, Lewis,
And on top of the hat, Russell has captured great moments with Lewis, such as when he asked Hamilton for an autograph as a teenager, or the two of them together on the Formula 1 podium. George says: “It’s amazing how time flies.”
Hamilton himself is wearing a cap with a Mercedes star on the back and a simple inscription: Thank you.
