Lewis Hamilton to Vettel: “I love you, man!” / System 1

The four-time Formula 1 champion retires at the end of 2022, the seven-time Formula 1 world champion salutes his long-time rival – what Lewis Hamilton has to say about Sebastian Vettel.

When the decision was made that Sebastian Vettel would leave Formula 1 at the end of 2022, Lewis Hamilton reported on his social networks: “Seb, it was an honor to be able to call you a competitor and an even greater honor to have you as a friend. To leave the sport better than you saw is goal always.”

“I have no doubt that whatever comes your way now will be exciting and meaningful and rewarding. I love you man.”

Lewis Hamilton said of Vettel: “The mutual respect is not a secret. I don’t usually have great memories, but some of the fights between Seb and I are some of my fondest memories in Formula 1. When you drive him you know you’re up against one of the best in the business. And then not only is Vettel a great racing driver, but also a great person who is passionate about many things.”

“I cherish the memories of our fight at that time, which was directly a fight between Mercedes and Ferrari. I think these years together have given us a lot. It was not always easy, but maybe it is these difficulties that have brought us closer. The respect between us is great very much.”

“For me, he is a person who stands for many good things. He used his voice as a world champion to be heard. He was one of the first to show where they are by kneeling. He fights for a better world, for what is right.”

“In a way, I’m sad we won’t see him run again, but I know he’ll continue to fight for important issues.”
