Lexus’ first PHEV: Lexus NX 450h+

When the Lexus NX appeared on the market in 2014, it was still one of the few hybrid models. And he is certainly the only one with such a fictional language. A car that we appreciated for its quality use, low consumption and individual character. But it was criticized for its vague driving concept, lackluster handling and raw, sluggish driving. Now it’s time for the second generation, which occupies just over five percent of all parts of its predecessor.

In terms of design, finish and combination of materials, Lexus is definitely one of the leaders in its segment. As with the previous NX, some hints of an angular look have been incorporated into the design, and it’s only available in a stylish color combination. We are pleased to report that with the NX a completely different approach has been taken regarding the operating concept. The new infotainment system is ‘just’ a touchscreen with a modern map display, logical menus and an intuitive layout.

Five full people

The NX is still not necessarily the biggest car in its class, but it is perfect for five people. The seats have a good backrest and seat, but they do not have several adjustment options to get a good sitting position. Don’t expect any additional functionality other than a folding rear seatback. You’ll only appreciate the NX’s interior while driving. Then you see how very effectively the noise from the wind and tires is kept out of the car to achieve dead silence.

Toyota and Lexus electric models on the side

The Lexus NX is now also available as a plug-in hybrid, with a powertrain from RAV4. That means a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 185 hp directed to the front axle to a 134 kW electric motor, plus an additional 40 kW electric motor to the rear axle for a total of 309 hp. The big advantage for Lexus is that it had the necessary technology in-house for a long time, and only had to add an external rechargeable battery. PHEV to do it. The NX is available from 59,990, but more prices will be announced later. Want to know how it works? Then watch the video.
