Lexus RX 450h+ – A luxury SUV with minimal utility

Clear the platform with the new Lexus RX 450H+: In the fifth generation of the model, the first SUV is more exciting than ever. In addition to two full hybrids, including the first turbo hybrid, the new version is also available as a plug-in hybrid.

Lexus RX 450h+ (Energy consumption (weighted, combined): 1.1 l/100km, CO2 emissions (weighted, combined): 25 g/km, Electric Range (EAER): up to 68 km, Electric range (EAER City) up to 90 km – according to WLTP) combines the best of both worlds.

Lexus started electrifying its first cars 17 years ago. This years of expertise now flows into the Lexus RX 450h +. The combination of a combustion engine and an electric motor ensures high efficiency and powerful, responsive performance. With a system output of 227 kW (309 hp), the car accelerates from zero to 100 km / h in 6.5 seconds. Fuel consumption is just 1.1 liters per 100 km, which corresponds to CO2 emissions of 25 g/km. The externally charged plug-in hybrid covers up to 90 km (WLTP) electronically and is therefore pollution free.

Lexus RX 450h+ – hybrid instead of pure combustion engines

With Lexus’ plug-in hybrid system, the RX 450h+ has a huge advantage over its competitors: when the battery runs out, the car seamlessly switches to self-charging hybrid mode – delivering its high fuel and emissions efficiency and range better. This distinguishes the Lexus system from many other manufacturers, which only switch to the combustion engine when the battery is empty.

The driver can also freely choose between different driving modes. By default, EV mode is enabled, in which the Lexus RX 450h+ drives electrically until the energy stored in the battery is used up. This applies regardless of how hard the gas pedal is pressed. In “Auto EV/HV” mode, the hybrid engine is switched on temporarily to provide additional power and drain the battery – for example during acceleration. In “HV” mode, the electric range is saved so that it can be used at the end of a trip in the city center, for example.

A new generation with extensive improvements

The classic Lexus Driving Signature gives the RX a pleasant response and direct handling. The improved GA-K platform also contributes to this: This allows the hybrid battery to be installed completely under the vehicle floor, which lowers the center of gravity and improves driving dynamics. The generous amount of space in the interior is another example of intelligent packaging.

In addition, regardless of vehicle type, occupants benefit from extensive equipment, advanced safety and next-generation support systems and the unique luxury of Takumi craftsmanship. Interior climate is fully controlled, entertainment and connectivity are seamlessly integrated into the vehicle.

NewCarz says:

Wow! Attractive design, comfortable equipment, good horsepower, more than a liter of fuel consumption and all that in an SUV? That’s what the Lexus RX 450h+ has to offer. In 2018 we had Lexus RX 450h allowed to test. So we are more than happy to be able to experiment with the next generation for the new generation. We can remain curious.
