24H. Daytona – Whelen Cadillac Racing dominates mid-range racing, Acura’s pedigree in difficulty


The first installment of the 2024 24 Hours of Daytona has just concluded in Florida, dominated by the No. 31 Cadillac V-Series.R – Whelen Cadillac Racing.

Following an unfavorable situation to move dirt, and a new phase of pit stop, the trio of, Jack Aitken leads overall and in GTP just ahead of Porsche 963 n°6 – Porsche Penske Motorsport of Laurens Vanthoor. Whelen Cadillac Racing’s strategy was of course to push its relays to the max in order to play for the championship points in the middle of the race. Followed by two BMW M Hybrid V8 n°25 and n°24 of Maxime Martin and Augusto Farfus.

The main fact of these first twelve hours in the GTP remains the concern of the Acura ARX-06 – WTR and Andretti. The No. 10 stopped on track after eight hours of racing before returning to the garage. Louis Delétraz was also forced to stop shortly before half-time (even getting out of the car), following what was believed to be an electronic problem, before finally leaving.

Cadillac Racing 01 – The Cadillac of Sébastien Bourdais, Alex Palou, Scott Dixon and Renger van der Zande, was punctured by a car pass, but is moving forward step by step.

In LMP2, Tom Dillmann (Oreca n°52 – Inter Europol-PR1/Mathiasen) takes the lead ahead of Connor Zilisch (Era Motorsport) and Felipe Massa (Riley).

Ferrari and Risi Competizione lead in GTD PRO with the No. 62 Ferrari 296 GT3 of Alessandro Pier Guidi. The winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans will race the No. 3 Corvette – Corvette and Pratt&Miller of Alex Sims and the No. 19 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2 – Iron Lynx of Franck Perera. Note the omission of Mercedes-AMG GT3 EVO n°75 – SunEnergy1.
