Logan Sargeant could be excited about his first Formula 2 pillar at Silverstone, Carlin’s driver won in a very difficult qualifying period and led by a tenth under Mercedes junior Frederik Vesti. The session turned out to be a difficult task for David Beckmann.
General position in front of Silverstone: With 132 points, Felipe Drugovich is already 49 points ahead of second-placed Theo Pourchaire. Even if everything went wrong for the Brazilian and Theo Pourchaire would have had a great weekend, Drugovich would still have left Silverstone in the lead.
Qualification: In the morning, Logan Sargeant set a very fast time in practice using a time of 1: 40.902. The American player also made a good start to the qualification, with 12 minutes left before Williams’ junior player took a time of 1: 38.946 minutes.
After weeks of turmoil, Jüri Vips also initially excelled in qualifying. Sometimes he finished second behind Sargeant, but was relegated to third place by Jehan Darivala.
From a German perspective there is something positive again in System 2 this weekend. David Beckmann has returned to the youth ranks to replace the suspended Amaury Cordeel in Van Amersfoort Racing. However, Beckmann’s qualifying match was more than five minutes before the final, and a technical problem forced the German to park his car. Only the last chance remained for him.
Logan Sargeant was able to cut the best time by more than 0.5 seconds and no other rider could reach that 1: 38.432. So, Sargeant gets a chance to apologize for the main race on Sunday.
Frederik Vesti (+0.107) starts behind Williams Junior. Felipe Drugvich (+0.121) and Theo Pourchaire (+0.121) repaired at the same time, Drugovich drove his original car and thus could start from third place. Liam Lawson (+0.193) follows P5 ahead of Ayumu Iwasa (+0.302), Jack Doohan (+0.469), Juri Vips (+0.581), Enzo Fittipaldi (+0.645) and Jehan Daruvala (+0.683), who finished the Sprint race will start from the pole.
